How to ask for genuine Google reviews

Build a simple review-request process after real customer experiences.

Reviews are useful when they help a future customer understand a real experience. The aim is an honest description, not a perfectly controlled message.

Pick a consistent moment

Ask after a completed service or a meaningful customer interaction. Give your team a simple trigger so requests do not depend on remembering at the end of a busy week. Include customers consistently rather than selecting only those who express satisfaction.

Make the request easy

Use the business’s real Google review link. A short message can say: “Thank you for working with us. If you would like to share your experience, here is our Google review link.” Let the customer choose what to write. A QR card can make the link easier to open in person.

Do not offer rewards for a particular rating or ask someone to copy a supplied review. Do not invent customer accounts or publish feedback on their behalf.

Keep requests proportionate

One useful request is better than repeated pressure. Use an appropriate channel and respect communication preferences. An automated reminder should have a clear stop condition rather than running indefinitely.

Read the feedback and act

Reviews can reveal unclear expectations, scheduling problems or strengths worth explaining on your website. Discuss recurring themes internally. Reply professionally, without sharing private details from the customer relationship.

Measure the process honestly

Track whether requests were sent as agreed and whether links work. Review volume is not proof of new revenue. Do not publish an old aggregate rating as though it were live; date any snapshot clearly.
