Exterior painting season in Calgary: when to start your marketing
How to plan campaigns, estimates and your schedule around Calgary's short exterior painting season.

In Calgary, the window for exterior painting is short. Cold weather, overnight frost and sudden weather changes limit the months when paint dries and bonds well. Always follow the manufacturer's minimum temperature guidance, but in practice most exterior jobs happen between late spring and early fall.
That changes how you should market. If you start promoting exteriors once it is already warm, many customers have already picked a painter.
Winter: get ready for the season
Between November and February exterior work stops, but marketing should not:
- Promote interior and cabinet painting, which can be done all year.
- Offer early booking for exterior work.
- Update your exterior painting page with photos from the season that just ended.
- Ask last year's customers for reviews if they have not left one yet.
Late winter and spring: open estimates
Many homeowners start thinking about their exterior when the snow melts and they see the winter wear. It is a good time to:
- Turn on or raise the budget for exterior campaigns in Google Ads.
- Reply quickly to every request, because your competitors are active too.
- Group estimate visits by area so you do not lose time driving.
- Follow up on winter estimates that are still open.
Summer: fill the gaps
With the schedule already set, marketing helps cover cancellations and open days. You can lower the exterior budget if you are full and focus on smaller jobs that fit between big projects.
Fall: finish strong and plan next year
As temperatures drop, change the message: last spots for exterior work, then back to interiors. It is also a good time to review the year's numbers:
- How many exterior estimates did you get and how many did you win?
- Which areas brought the best jobs?
- Which weeks were empty?
Match your website and profile to the season
Your website should say clearly when you do exterior work and whether you are booking for next season. On your Google Business Profile you can post updates like "Now booking exterior painting for May and June".
Be careful with promises
Do not promise weather-dependent dates without explaining it. It is better to say "we schedule around the weather and let you know early if we need to move the day" than to have upset customers with last-minute changes.
