A marketing checklist for painting contractors in Calgary

Check your service area, season, mobile estimate path and tracking before spending more on marketing for your painting company.

A marketing checklist for painting contractors in Calgary

Before you raise your ad budget, follow one estimate request from the search to the booked job. Do it twice: once for an interior repaint and once for a full exterior. You will find problems that no click report will ever show you.

1. Decide which jobs you want and where

Write down the painting jobs you want more of: interiors, exteriors, kitchen cabinets, decks, commercial work. Then mark the areas your crew can reach without losing half a day on the road. In Calgary that might be one or two quadrants, plus a nearby town like Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks or Chestermere.

With that list you know which pages you need, which keywords are worth paying for and which requests to politely turn down.

2. Plan around the season

In Calgary, most exterior painting happens between late spring and early fall. If you start advertising exteriors in June, you are late: many homeowners ask for quotes in March and April to lock in a date.

  • Winter: interior painting, cabinets, early bookings for exterior work.
  • Spring: exterior campaigns, follow-up on winter estimates.
  • Summer: fill gaps in the schedule, ask recent customers for reviews.
  • Fall: last exteriors, back to interiors, plan next year.

3. Test what the customer sees on a phone

Search for one of your services on Google from a phone and open your page. Check that the first screen makes it clear:

  • What kind of painting you do.
  • Which areas you serve.
  • Real photos of your work, ideally before and after.
  • How to request an estimate without writing a long email.

Then send a test request and confirm it reaches the person who books visits. You would be surprised how many forms end up in an inbox nobody checks.

4. Ask for the details you need to quote

A good form for painters asks for little, but the right things: type of job, rooms or areas, a few photos, the timeline and the postal code. With that you can decide whether to quote from photos or visit the property.

5. Review your Google Business Profile

Many people search "painters near me" and choose from Google Maps without opening a single website. Make sure your profile has the right category, your services, your service area, recent project photos and replies to reviews. There is more detail in the local SEO guide for painters.

6. Track what happens between the click and the job

For two weeks, log every request: where it came from (if you know), what job it was, whether it was in your area, whether you sent an estimate and whether it was booked. That simple table already leads to better decisions:

  • If good requests arrive but you reply slowly, fix the follow-up before spending more.
  • If you get many jobs you do not do, review search terms and targeting.
  • If estimates go unanswered, read the guide to following up on painting estimates.

7. Pick one goal to start

You do not need to fix everything at once. Choose one job you want to grow, for example exterior painting in northwest Calgary, and improve the whole path for that case. Once it works, copy what you learned to the next service.
